Enjoy the great outdoors on two wheels: The Green Wheel
If you’re looking for a great way to relax, enjoy the outdoors or get fit, why not have a got riding around Peterborough’s Green Wheel network of cycle paths. Why is it called the ‘Green Wheel’? It has a circular type perimeter route and then routes (‘spokes’ ) out to it from the city centre – a bit like wheel.
It was created in 2000 by PECT (Peterborough Environment City Trust) and 50% funded by the National Lottery (£11million) matched by contributions from public and private businesses and voluntary organisation. It has approx 80km with a mixture of traffic-free paths, quiet roads and urban cycle lanes enabling cyclists to enjoy some of Peterborough’s lovely attractions too like along the River Nene and incorporating Ferry Meadows.
You’ll find the network fully signposted for different routes. Click here for the routes: GoogleMaps
