What a treat today as Nene Valley Spirits opened its doors as Peterborough’s first micro-distillery in the Nene Valley region, offering handcrafted, premium gin in small batches.

Jo, Leigh, Abi and Shelley are located in the newly renovated Artisan Courtyard area at Sacrewell Farm and Country Park. A place where more small businesses will be located – a great idea. It’s an extra treat today as it’s Christmassy with Santa’s sleigh and cottage just around the corner, a large Christmas tree in the courtyard and I was lucky enough to spy a peacock wandering around too. Anyway enough of that let’s get back to the most important part of my visit…..Yes, with ice please!

Their first gin created, by their master distiller Leigh, is Ermine Street. It’s a clear dry London gin which has been inspired by the Nene Valley and Roman heritage. I was given a taster today with a tonic, lemon slice and ice = very nice. Did you know that Ermine Street was one of Brittania’s streets? A major Roman road that used to run from London to York not far from their distillery.

As a sweeter-toothed person I’m very much looking forward to their second gin coming out next week. It’s called Colibrì and has a unique fusion of Mexican and Amazonian botanicals. Sweeter and more flavoursome.

As you can see on the shelf…the elves have obviously been trying it a bit toooo much.

Purchases can be made direct with the shop or online. Available click and collect. Bottles are £35. (70cl) just advise the receptionist on arrival you are visiting the courtyard where you will be given a bracelet.
We wish them well in their new venture.
