Food for thought and clean plates all round!
Let’s introduce you to House of Feasts, Eye Green, Peterborough.
Speaking with Damian Wawrzyniak & Claudia… they have been running this restaurant for the last 18 months together and what a lovely place it is… if you haven’t been in yet to try it, then I suggest that you do!
Damian is featured in the Michelin Guide… He believes that eating is based on a simple love for food and a matching of drinks… finished with friendly chat. He has completed a baking show with Mary Berry and is part of the BBC Breakfast Club. He is an Award Winning Chef, Master Craftsman at Guild for Chefs UK has experience in two Michelin Star, Worlds Best Restaurant, Noma in Copenhagen / Denmark he also was in charge of the Champagne & Seafood Restaurant at the largest food operation in British History – London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics. Damian was recently invited to meet The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge to discuss the Polish – British Cooperation, and he also prepared a Royal Packed Lunch for Prince William & Kate Middleton during their first ever visit in Poland.
…… We were lucky enough to get ourselves booked in today for Sunday lunch and am so glad we did. Outside looks fairly bland in comparison to when you enter through the front door!!! It’s like a different world, lots of windows and light cool colours. You feel that you’ve walked into a winter world but a very welcoming one. Lots of light wood, pale yellows and whites.
The sight simply gives a wonderful welcoming feel and you are spoiled for choice on where you can sit. To the right is a large table area which is great if you come as a big party, to the right there is a round individual window seat and a main seating area with individual tables as well as a seating area down the far end with four tables. This then leads out to the garden area which looks as though it could be spectacular during the summer time for al fresco dining. (Can’t wait)
On to the most important thing… the food? First up was Buttermilk and Potato Soup with large floating sourdough bread croutons. Lovely, light and creamy and a lot of it. Also, Smalec, Sourdough Breads & Pickled Vegetables – a bit like a pate but lighter. A creamy texture and the bread slices complimented it.
Our mains were both roast dinners… Chump of Lamb – wonderful pieces of tender meat ample for the serving with a delightful parsnip with honey & saffron… Brined & Slowly Roasted Leg of Pork – again a cooked meat which was very tender. Both roasts were served with crunchy roast potatoes and vegetables all complimented by the dishes own individual pork gravy or rich lamb jus. Yorkshire puddings were enormous and created with sourdough instead of the traditional recipe. A little sturdier but still a great addition to the dish.
Dessert. I chose the Faworki Mille Feuille which was a crunchy long pastry with a custard cream filling and blackcurrant jam on the side… a very creamy dessert which complimented the sweetness of the fruits. Husband opted for a nice, short espresso. 🙂
The service from Claudia was quick and friendly – checking back to make sure everything was ok every time we had a fresh dish, but not being intrusive. The atmosphere was nice with music playing in the background so it wasn’t silent. We spent just under 1.5 hours from start to finish in the restaurant eating 3 courses.
Don’t expect an overflowing plate however the quality of the food is extremely high and the amount to eat is ample, especially if you indulge in all 3 courses! The price is excellent too with having a choice of 1, 2 or 3 courses.
A lovely idea they have is a tasting menu session- it’s where you can get to try their new dishes that they are creating ready for the new menus. It consist of 8 courses for £75pp. The next one is in November (which is fully booked) there are spaces for the December one.
I’ll definitely be back to see what’s new on their menu another time and share the experience with friends. The restaurant is ideal for both a private romantic dinner or a larger party outing. They’ve also still got some places for partying over Christmas.
