Day 20 of our 30 Days in May Challenge: City Trails

It’s day 20 and I was up early this morning to have a go at a fun Murder Mystery Treasure Trail game around Peterborough (there’s 2 so keep reading).

Booklet in hand (you can buy hard copy or digital copy) I had to follow clues and mark off weapons and people from the suspect gallery and weapons found at the scene of the crime. It’s a fun way to explore just part of our city centre… it took me 1/2 hour as 1) I wasn’t walking slowly with a family in tow or chatting to friends and 2) I knew roughly where I was going. However, on the pack it does state up to 2 hours, so this depends on who you go with and how fast you walk. I clocked up 6800 steps so it’s not out of your walking comfort zone either with too much energy. You’ll spend your time from behind the Town Hall up to the river, into the centre, up towards the museum and then along to Cathedral Square… so not really that far. It will give you a bit of fun with the kids and a short walk around.

It starts off from Haven Car Park where you are given clues on where to go… e.g. ‘Exit the car park via the path to the left of the vehicle entrance then turn left and left again into Bishop’s Road Gardens where you will find your first clue…’ So you’re not going to get lost. The clues are ‘fairly’ easy as you have to look for wording, symbols or numbers/dates on buildings. So always look for a round blue Civic plaque nearby, just in case this might be your answer board. Along the way you’ll also learn some interesting facts about where you are or what you’ve found. e.g. the Lido outdoor swimming pool is a good example of Art Deco architecture. It was built in 1936, the same year the BBC started regular TV broadcasts. The pool is open in summer. ‘

I had some fun, even on my own trying to find a very hard one along Priestgate, so look VERY carefully to find that one. By the end of the game you will have crossed off all the unused weapons and the innocent people to be left with 1 weapon and 1 suspect. But, don’t stop there.. if you go online you can then enter your suspicions into a monthly prize draw where you could win £100. You’ll also be able to see all the answers that you’ve completed. Good Luck! Treasure Trail: The trail costs £6.99 which can be downloaded straight away and printed by you in a pdf format (no cheaper) or printed and posted by them. You can even personalise it for £9.99. www.treasuretrails.co.uk/things-to-do/cambridgeshire/peterborough

IF, you don’t want to spend that but would like something to do around the city with the kids for a bit of fun, why not try We Love Peterborough’s own Ernie’s Clock Trail! You’ll be spending more time out as the area covered is much more, so aim to spend at least an hour around the city centre from the River Nene up to Stanley Rec. (as a guide)… and maybe, just maybe you’ll find the bonus clock at the very end that we didn’t include.. mmmmmm wonder if you’ll find it.
