Summer

Relax, Destress, Eat

I had the pleasure of visiting Alwalton Hall this week as I received a birthday treat voucher, so was whisked away on Friday to enjoy it. Arriving at the grand house is an experience in itself, a beautiful home which has been turned into this beauty haven. Greeted and given something to drink as I waited for my beautician to come and get me and take me up into a wonderful teal coloured room with a twinkling of soft music. I received a wonderful full body massage from Courtney which was an hour's relaxation with warm oils. It's a

In The Precincts

Yesterday I was invited for a free attendance on a tour that Peterborough Cathedral has restarted - Walking through history in the Cathedral Precincts A building made up of many year's of works from Romanesque to our famous Gothic front to the Cathedral. Our group was entertained by Kate, our guide, for around an hour and a half. It started in the Cathedral Cloisters to the side of the Cathedral. Even though you possibly walk through the cloisters, like me, you don't actually appreciate what it used as to be like. Apart from the outer walls, all have been

Pizza-borough Strikes Again!

What can I say? FrancoManca has opened at lunchtime today and it’s heaving. You’re obviously pizza fans…. !!! Newly opened today, we've been following their creation day by day on the corner of Cathedral Square right in the heart of the city centre. We lunched at 12 today, as it opened and grabbed a seat inside but next to the opened double doors - on a nice day like this it gives the restaurant a lovely Al-fresco feel. We tried their Bites To Start:  Aubergine Parmigiana at £5.50 and the Free range spicy lamb sausage, roasted potatoes cooked with

So this weekend was special in Peterborough as BIG names appeared in a concert on the Embankment organised by LPH Concerts and Events. Friday night has the vibes of your summer holiday floating around the surrounding area as Cafe Mambo Ibiza played those beats out ready for dancing, laughing and having fun together. It was a good turnout with young and old there reminiscing of being near some sandy beach or just boogying the night away till the early hours. Judge Jules was one of the big names to hit the decks as well as some other like Todd

Not many people know of, or have even heard of this place, most will simply brush it off as a hobbyist place to visit, but trust me it’s not that at all. Take a relaxing walk over Town Bridge coming out of the city centre and then either walk down along the River Nene pathway or go through the arches from Fair Meadow car park (where the fair usually sits when it comes) to NVR Peterborough station and you will find Railword Wildlife Haven. With just a £4 entry for adults and £3 for concessions and children, you can

Not a sheep in sight at the Woolpack!

We took a little venture out of norm today as we went along to a not-too-far-away pub for lunch. After seeing photos of the set up at The Woolpack Stanground we couldn't resist going along to see what they've done to their 17th century building and beer garden since lockdown.   We spoke to David and Karen about how things were going since a year ago. Once lockdown came along they obviously had to close along with other pubs in the UK, however with the blessing of having a beer garden things were looking up. They immediately starter to

A place very close to my heart is Central Park. I grew up just two streets away and played for hours and hours on end as a child back in the 70s & 80s. When you visit memories flood back, however much has changed and much hasn’t. The rocking horse, the witches hat and the roundabouts where you held on for dear life as a mate pushed or pulled it to its limits along with a huge slide of which, yes I stood on the top (please don’t tell my mum!) are now long gone. They have been replaced

A Piece of Art

2021-03-30T14:47:07+01:00December 1st, 2020|Days Out, Great For Kids, SPARK Magazine, Summer, Uniqueness, Walks|

Wood, metal, concrete, grass and water... it’s all a piece of art. I’ve not been here since last summer and thought I’d take a walk this weekend after we’d been put into our second lockdown. So a nice place to meander around Peterborough Sculpture Park did the trick of clearing my mind in the sunshine. Located at Thorpe Meadows the Sculpture Park sits behind the Dragonfly Hotel and The Boat House – two places for a nice cup of coffee (when they are open). The starting point is over on the left hand side of the Rowing Lake, before
