Today I joined artist Sunaina Bhalla for a traditional Indian block printing session as part of Future Network with Metal Peterborough. As part of a 3-hour session, I sat down next to Jo, also on her own, and learned how to block print using the stamping process from India. Some very impressive samples were also on display around the classroom. Some small lunch snacks and refreshments were provided after our teaching session, before diving in and choosing from array of wood cut block prints including flowers, leaves, honeycomb and bee, a butterfly, various patterns, border lines and more. We

I took a wander into Peterborough Cathedral Tuesday morning for a look around the #MadeInLockdown. I was expecting a small area, maybe at the back of the cathedral where they would be out the way… but to my surprise I found it in mass and everywhere around the Cathedral!! Walk down the aisles and you’ll find many artworks of paint, drawings, coiled paper, mosaics, however, you’ll also come across sculpture and materials. Portraits, landscapes, butterflies, trees, glass and so much more! It’s not an ‘art exhibition’ where you need to either be arty or understand art - it’s an

A while ago an event by The Social Canvas caught my eye so I enrolled. Tonight was the night for creating a painted scene of beach huts. Carol runs the events in different locations in Peterborough and surrounding areas for something different and a bit of fun. The art events are not formal fine art classes but alternative fun art social experiences. I turned up at the Windmill at Orton Waterville, got a drink from the bar and took my seat at a table with a top easel complete with large canvas, acrylic paints, paint brushes and water. In

Do I Matter?

I went to the Museum the other day and meandered around their new exhibition in the gallery titled 'I Matter'. To be honest, it wasn't actually on my list of things to see (as I'm not into much art), but I had time on my hands so ventured in to see what it was all about. I'm glad I did, as I found some beautiful, creative and very different pieces that I'm glad I didn't miss. What does 'I matter' mean? 'I Matter' means that no matter where I come from or who I am or what I look

2022 Calendar Launch

On 27th August 2021 we began our #2022CalendarCompetition... Last year 2020 saw the arrival of the We Love Peterborough Calendar with photographs taken by us around the city. THIS YEAR 2021 we wanted to see yours.... You were all involved, the people who live in the area. It was a chance to show us your best shots. There was a maximum of 3 entries per person and the amount we received of different places was wonderful. Plenty were received of Ferry Meadows, a firm favourite with everyone, Thorpe Meadows a close second place - we obviously like being near

Street Art Peterborough

Just a short blog today... We thought we’d just go and check out the wonderful Cuckoo’s Hollow mural and see what Nathan and his team have been up to from Street Arts Hire Ltd. They haven't long completed the successful transformation of the underpass at Werrington and believe me it looks amazing. It has totally transformed the underpass area merging in with its surroundings. What a fabulous piece of street art it is - and put to great use.  They were granted funding by the Cambridgeshire Community Fund with the help of local councillors and the Werrington Neighborhood Council

What an amazing exhibition finale to the #1000Moments project. Make sure you go and see it whilst it’s on. You'll find this massive wall (designed by Paper Rhino and printed by FisherPrint) on the uppermall where BHS used to be. It's a celebration of the positivity of people in Peterborough. Those who love certain things, have had special memories of moments which make where they live great. See what people have to say about where you live and what it means to them. At the opening event on Thursday 13th February it was great to meet so many of the faces

To Hell & Back at Burghley

With some friends over from Italy who had already seen our lovely Cathedral it was a no-brainer to take them out to the countryside and visit Burghley House near Stamford! We arrived ready for entry at 11am on Saturday by car, we could have travelled by train from Peterborough to Stamford but the issue then is getting out to the houses' entrance which is a fair way from the station... so car it was. I'd purchased entry online first as it was slightly cheaper than on the door (so I'd recommend this to you too) and you get a

Today I was out of the blistering wind and cosied up at Chaffeur’s Cottage (behind the Town Hall) at a Metal Peterborough workshop. What workshop? Masterclass #11 Pop-up Paper Architecture with Hilary Powell (From film and book production to performance and print Hilary Powell works with overlooked processes, materials, people and places in unexpected ways.) https://instagram.com/hilary_powell So, I’m no artist, but you don’t have to be either, to join in on any of them. On arrival we were welcomed with tea, coffee and biscuits and provided with all the materials we would need to come away with something creative. Hilary

PCRFM’s Craig Bunday speaking with David Hutchinson (Director of Selladoor ) and Richie Ross (Peterborough’s Manager) We're at a Press Invite today talking about all the new shows, productions, music and plays coming to New Theatre Peterborough, when they take over, officially, in September 2019. Changes in the theatre will be minimal with some extra stage space allowing some larger shows to appear here, however, the theatre still has its ‘wow’ factor and they want to bring the West End to us in Peterborough. New Press and Marketing Manager Jack has moved from Vivacity so it’s great to have some Peterborough
