Something old, something new

I’ve just been to get a preview of a new boutique opening in the cathedral precincts and this time it’s wedding bells. Bridal Reloved owner Lucy has just put the finishing touches to her dream and will be opening her boutique tomorrow on Sunday for all to see. What is it about? Bridal Reloved is all about no waste. Whether it’s sample designer dresses, ex catalogue dresses or even dresses preloved from a previous wedding… they are all beautiful. Not everyone has a huge budget for their wedding and dresses can normally cost over £2000, so why not reduce

I had the pleasure of visiting Alwalton Hall this week as I received a birthday treat voucher, so was whisked away on Friday to enjoy it. Arriving at the grand house is an experience in itself, a beautiful home which has been turned into this beauty haven. Greeted and given something to drink as I waited for my beautician to come and get me and take me up into a wonderful teal coloured room with a twinkling of soft music. I received a wonderful full body massage from Courtney which was an hour's relaxation with warm oils. It's a

Surprise of the day, week, year… well life actually as I’ve never been. I saw a lovely event menu in November and completely forgot about it until I received a reminder email from Restaurant manager Francesca De Falco…it was a couple of night’s notice but I thought, yes I’m game - I want to try this out. Do you know what? I’m glad I did as I’ll definitely be back…. The Parcs restaurant is situated in Peterborough College and gives the students the chance to work and gain real-life experience. My expectations were not high and the menu sounded

Today I joined artist Sunaina Bhalla for a traditional Indian block printing session as part of Future Network with Metal Peterborough. As part of a 3-hour session, I sat down next to Jo, also on her own, and learned how to block print using the stamping process from India. Some very impressive samples were also on display around the classroom. Some small lunch snacks and refreshments were provided after our teaching session, before diving in and choosing from array of wood cut block prints including flowers, leaves, honeycomb and bee, a butterfly, various patterns, border lines and more. We

Midsummer Magic

I purchased tickets for Midsummer Magic at the Lido as soon as they came out. The year Covid hit, their previous event had to be cancelled, so it's lovely to see this going ahead in 2022. We were promised an evening of champagne, canapes and entertainment and that's what we certainly got! Black tie and evening dresses were the attire for the evening. We arrived promptly at 7.15pm and were rewarded with a bubbly glass to enjoy. We had some lovely canapes floating around that we could nibble on to keep hunger at bay. Friends of the Lido were

Went to see what all the fuss was about down at the The HackSpace open evening and came away full bellied from Tacos and Flipflops If you’ve never been to the Hackspace it’s all about sharing of resources. I chatted to Tyler about the different areas available in their community workspace of amazing facilities. If you want to start laser cutting on wood, 3D printer, have the use of a manual milling machine, photography, metalwork, woodwork, use a full range of hand tools, sewing machines, a vinyl cutter and more…then this is the place to come and use some

A while ago an event by The Social Canvas caught my eye so I enrolled. Tonight was the night for creating a painted scene of beach huts. Carol runs the events in different locations in Peterborough and surrounding areas for something different and a bit of fun. The art events are not formal fine art classes but alternative fun art social experiences. I turned up at the Windmill at Orton Waterville, got a drink from the bar and took my seat at a table with a top easel complete with large canvas, acrylic paints, paint brushes and water. In

There’s a wonderful new experience to be had right in the centre of town: Bean Around BE.AR. are now open at the weekend evenings offering a menu of charcuterie boards to enjoy with a selection of wines. You can choose to sit outside and enjoy the mild evenings under cover (good in case it rains) or sit inside. The outside seating area is all lit in fairy lights and roped off for privacy. Walk-ins may be available dependent on bookings availability. We arrived for 6:30pm. We were greeted and seated at our table where we ordered wine, beers &

Have you heard of the CP Learning Trust and their 'Building Better Opportunities – eMploY-ABILITY' project? I came across their February workshops as they posted them out to me to add as events and decided to have a little nosey at what there were doing in the way of helping the community in Peterborough.    This particular project is aimed at engaging participants, upskilling and supporting them towards employment and is delivered throughout Peterborough, Fenland and West Norfolk. The events are provided by means of funding by the European Social Fund and Community Fund of the National Lottery.

What a treat today as Nene Valley Spirits opened its doors as Peterborough’s first micro-distillery in the Nene Valley region, offering handcrafted, premium gin in small batches. Jo, Leigh, Abi and Shelley are located in the newly renovated Artisan Courtyard area at Sacrewell Farm and Country Park. A place where more small businesses will be located - a great idea. It's an extra treat today as it's Christmassy with Santa's sleigh and cottage just around the corner, a large Christmas tree in the courtyard and I was lucky enough to spy a peacock wandering around too. Anyway enough of
