The International Food and drink festival at Charters Bar is now in full swing. It started at 12 o’clock and is on today and tomorrow. Charter’s are taking care of your drink on the day needs where the stall holders are providing food and take home treats.

If you fancy coming down for a pint in the sunshine whilst listening to music and having something to eat there’s plenty to choose from like fudge from Cheryl at GluttonyFudge, chocolate bars from Sam at GrandmasRollingPinBaking, lovely cake slices from Gabby of Gabby’sBakeaway, Nene Valley Spirits have their gin bottles to take away with you – Tales of the Riverbank & Ermine St, you can also grab yourself a bottle of mead from Bob & Jo from Iceni Meadery, there’s a new one of the block… bottles of Bowler’s beer not forgetting Sarah at the Sweet Talker with her cupcakes and brownies.

The hot food counters are Michelle’s Delicious Dishes offering up frood from the Carribean, South Africa and Mexico, House of Feasts offering up Polish, and Pierogarnia has Polish and Ukrainian dishes, Azahar’s Spanish Food’s – paella is just cooking, from El Ajolote there are some delicious Tacos, a Caribbean mix under the canopy with Coco’s Caribbean Kitchen and on the green is Remstone kitchen with West African tastes, Bhushan’s Byriani curry looked good, there are also sweet & savoury crêpes from Surinder over at The Crepe Cabin and can even get yourself an ice cream. There’s also the open bar from the Maersk containers (don’t they look fabulous) and great as there’s no queueing inside the boat now for a drink.

All in all. it’s a good turn out from both small independent food businesses as well as the public. The sun sure is hot down here so make sure you bring your sunglasses, sun hat and don’t forget the suncream! It’s the first time I’ve been to the food festival (missed it in the winter) and it looks a rocketing success.

It’s on again Sunday 1st May but check the weather first…there may be a changeover of different stall holders some just for Saturday and some new ones for Sunday (Jamaican Delights with Caribbean offerings)
